Over 7,000 officers were mobilised for Operation Roll 2 , the major policing operation supporting the visit of the President of the United States.
Bringing together local, national and specialist teams from Police Scotland, along with officers from across the UK, this was one of the largest operations in Police Scotland’s history.
A policing plan was put in place to ensure public safety, protect the right to peaceful protest and minimise disruption.
Assistant Chief Constable Bond reflects on the scale and success of the operation: “The operation itself was primarily about maximising public safety, balancing people’s right to peaceful protest and whilst at the same time minimising disruption to the wider public and to communities.
“I’m really grateful to all members of the public for the patience that they’ve show shown. Hopefully they feel really reassured by the fact that not only have we managed to deliver a significant policing operation across the country from Ayrshire up to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire but we’ve also then maintained service delivery to all communities.
“Our message to officers is every single officer and staff member that’s been involved in the operation should be immensely proud of what we’ve managed to achieve.”
