AC SHADOWS 2025: Is it Worth Returning? (Nightmare Mode, Parkour OVERHAUL & FREE Content Guide)
If you bounced off Assassin's Creed Shadows at launch, you won't recognize the game today. The developers have added New Game Plus, massive Parkour upgrades, the Nightmare Difficulty mode, and a ton of FREE story content and collaboration events.
This video is your complete guide to EVERYTHING added since launch up to the Attack on Titan event, so you can decide if AC Shadows is now worth re-downloading and know exactly where to find the new features!
In this video I will cover the 4 major areas of post-launch content: Free Story Quests, Collaboration Events, the Claws of Awaji DLC & the Free Bo Weapon, and all the crucial Gameplay & Quality of Life Upgrades.
π FREE STORY QUESTS & CONTENT
The team has added four major free story packs, each with unique lore and rewards:
β The Works of LuΓs Frois (Patch 1.0.4): A short questline in Azuchi exploring Jesuit history and providing codex updates.
β Thrown to the Dogs (Patch 1.0.5): The original pre-order quest is now free for everyone! Complete the mission at Tennoji Temple to unlock Tsuki-maru as a pet in your Hideout.
β A Critical Encounter (Patch 1.0.6): This Critical Role crossover quest adds the ally Rufino, who can instantly break an enemy's guard.
β ISU Quest (Patch 1.1.6): The "A Puzzlement" quest is the third free story drop and features a major AC Odyssey Kassandra easter egg inside a secret ISU chamber. Unlock new ISU weapons (Naginata and Tanto).
π€ COLLABORATION EVENTS
β Dead by Daylight (Patch 1.0.5): A horror-themed crossover quest in Harima rewarding the Entity trinket.
β Attack on Titan (Patch 1.1.6): A limited-time quest in Yamashiro involving a Titan-Shifter faction! Rewards include the powerful Crystal Katana (Naoe's ice arm) and a huge Titan statue for your Hideout. (Note: This is a time-limited FOMO event being removed on December 22nd!)
πΊοΈ CLAWS OF AWAJI EXPANSION & FREE WEAPON
β The first paid expansion (Patch 1.1.1) adds the new Awaji Island region, over 10 hours of content, and the Sanzoku Ippa faction. You must complete the main story arcs for Naoe and Yasuke to access it.
β FREE Bo Weapon: The quest "Go With The Bo" (Patch 1.1.1) is free for all players who have completed the main story (Shinbakufu targets), unlocking the versatile Bo staff weapon for Naoe.
π₯ GAMEPLAY & QoL UPGRADES
β Advanced Parkour OVERHAUL (Patch 1.1.4): Movement is dramatically smoother. The new Advanced Parkour option adds reliable back/side ejects and a directional catch system, making Naoe's stealth runs feel better than ever.
β Nightmare Difficulty (Patch 1.0.6): This new hardcore mode is tuned for experienced players, featuring tighter parry windows and harsher enemy detection.
β New Game+ (Patch 1.0.7): Replay the story while keeping all your skills, gear, and Hideout progress. Completing NG+ earns 2x Gold Legendary Katanas (Whisper of Gold & Dragon's Gold).
β Corrupted Castles (Patch 1.1.4): A new seasonal endgame loop! Up to five cleared castles are reused as tougher, high-reward activities.
β Top QoL: Horse auto-follow returns (Patch 1.0.2), the meditation/time skip feature (Patch 1.1.1), and the Sanctuary Project (Patch 1.1.1) which rewards Ezio themed cosmetics and the Rooftop Cat pet.
