I do playthroughs using VFIO/GPU Passthrough and a virtual machine with the MSI overlay displaying (for statistics for others who do GPU Passthrough) or i play directly on Linux with just the steam fps counter.
Or through Proton with the DXVK hud open to show the performance of the game.
My Rig is:
Motherboard: Asus Prime x399-A
CPU: AMD Threadripper 1920x (12 cores 24 threads)
RAM: 32GB @ 2666 Mhz
GPU (Linux host): AMD RX570 8GB
GPU (Windows VM): GTX 1070 ti (currently under RMA, using a spare 1060 6GB in meantime)
Host to VM CPU ratio: VM has 6 specific physical cores reserved while its running along with 8GB of memory on a specific NUMA node, the rest of the system has access to 6 cores and 18 threads and 24GB of memory while the virtual machine is turned on.
