I just want to start of by saying WOW, this is a massive padlock! It is quickly becoming one of my favorite padlocks in my collection. I enjoy how physically strong it is coupled with the ability to be paired up with so many different cylinders. It makes this a versatile and very useful padlock. Today we are going to explore a specific type of security pin called a “serrated pin.” When you are first starting off these pins can be intimidated but with the tips and tricks you will learn today hopefully you will be able to approach them with more confidence! Once you become more experience with security pins you may find that you will really like them. Security pins provide a lot of valuable feedback and they make the lock “talk.” This can make locks with security pins easier to single pin pick (SPP) sometimes. However, security pins do an excellent job at thwarting low skill level attacks like raking, rocking, zipping, and bumping. Comb picks are a lot of fun to use when they do work, however, they shouldnt work. There is no reason why lock manufactures should still be producing locks that are susceptible to this methods. It can be thwarted by a shorter bible, or more paracentric keyway.

How To Shim Your Door Lock With A Security Tag!

In today’s video we will look at how we can take a common security tag and extract its contents to be able to use it (along with a key blank) to be able to shim a lock open. This does make it, so you need to have access to the secured side of the door (the inside) because you will need to take the lock out of the door to do this.
After watching this you may be tempted to try to shim the front of the lock. The logic is there, and it is quite concerning. Luckily, this attack has been long thwarted with the addition of a brim round the front of the plug which prevents front shimming.
This is a technique which can help you out in a pinch, but I do recommend purchasing commercial core shims if you plan to do this on any regular interval.
