Abram Lufer was a Soviet pianist and teacher. He started his musical education at the Music School in Kiev with Professor G. Beklemishev, graduating in 1925. He then studied at the Lysenko Musical Institute, graduating with honors in 1928. Subsequently, he started teaching piano at the Institute; from 1929 on he was Head of the Piano Department.
Lufer was the 1st prize winner at the 1930 All-Ukrainian Piano Competition in Kharkov. In 1932 he was awarded 4th prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw (tied with Boleslaw Kon, he lost by a coin toss).
