At over 360 miles, Mammoth Caves National Park is the longest cave system known in the world and has been on of the oldest tourist attractions in North America. The upper standstone caprock prevents water from penetrating, therefore making the caves extremely dry and stable. Some areas of the caprock have been penetrated and beautiful displays of stalactites and stalagmites have been formed like in the area named the Frozen Niagra.
