Aberlady is an attractive historic village on the beautiful East Lothian coast of Scotland, situated about 15 miles east of Edinburgh. The population is a little under 1200 in the village itself, rising to 1500 when you include the outlying communities of Craigielaw, Gosford, Luffness and Ballencrieff.
In 1633 Aberlady was designated Port of Haddington but it’s origins are much earlier having, from the 7th century had strong links with the old monasteries at Iona and Lindisfarne. In 1952 Aberlady Bay became the first local nature reserve in Britain. The village also has the headquarters of the Scottish Ornithologists Club and has several fine links golf courses that flank the village to the east and west.
