Lily of the valley, (Convallaria majalis), fragrant perennial herb and only species of the genus Convallaria in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). Native to Eurasia and eastern North America.The symbolism of lily of the valley can be traced back to Greek mythology, with the god Apollo creating a covering of them for his nymphs to walk on. A significant symbol in the Bible too, the story states that Eve cried tears of lily of the valley when she was banished from the Garden of Eden. Many believe they also represent Mary’s tears after the crucifixion of Jesus.
