This week’s iconic guest programmer is none other than Australian multi-instrumentalist and composer Ollie Olsen.
Ollie was an instrumental figure (pun intended) in the development of the Australian post-punk movement during the 1970s and 80s. He helped to form and performed in bands including Whirlywirld (1978–80), Orchestra of Skin and Bone (1984–86), No (1987–89), and Max Q (1989-90) with the late Michael Hutchence. The artist is also well known for his role as music director for Richard Lowenstein's cult Australian film Dogs In Space. As a special feature for this weekend’s show, rage will be playing two new music videos from the Dogs In Space soundtrack directed by Richard, which feature Ollie’s work.
In 2020, Ollie was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy (MSA), a rare neurodegenerative disorder to which there is no known cure. The outpour of support for him and his family has been significant, with the local music industry rallying behind the musician to help cover costs for essential treatment and ongoing care. Ollie’s appearance on the show this week also runs into the morning of December 3rd, which is universally known as International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
