Why do people use the term abattoir? It is pretty simple. They don't want to use the term slaughterhouse. Because of course a slaughterhouse is disgusting. The very term conjures up the nasty images of the horror that occurs in such places. How bout we take a novel approach to what we're putting in our mouths and actually recognize what industries are doing when we support them by buying the products that come from their unethical behavior.
