I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to share the full history of this area, and it is wildly fascinating, but for now it is just a joy to be getting out and seeing some hints of it.
Back in the gold rush days, this was quite a happening little town. So much so, that they even had their own flour mill. People would bring wheat from all around the area, and either pay the mill to process it into flour, or sell the whole works to the mill. From what I can tell, this was basically the start of the townsite. Once you cross the bridge, you would see the mill on the left, as well as a general store, and then only a couple of kilometres to the main townsite.
Today there is very little left, aside from a pile of rubble at the bottom of the hill, and only two photos to be found. Judging from the amount of burnt lumber, I am guessing the mill was lost to a fire some time in the lake 90s. Of course it was not uncommon for people to salvage and repurpose old building, and occasionally entire towns were moved and reused, so this could have been it's fate as well.
I will definitely be doing some more looking around in this area, because there is clearly more to find. Maybe even time to get a metal detector.
