Aaron Shragge & Ben Monder Duo
This enchanting project challenges, soothes, and mesmerizes. Built on centuries-old traditions, Aaron Shragge and Ben Monder's inimitable Jazz chops serve the music powerfully. Meticulous structure, melody, and meditation are infused with a clear modernity; a deliberate and nuanced expression of New Music.
According to Shragge, this project is not to be mistaken for 'Fusion', rather it is the result of his deep and earnest study of traditional Japanese and Indian music, both on the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), and the dragon-mouth trumpet, a hybrid between slide trombone and smoky Jazz trumpet. Shragge points out that the traditional elements that find their way into the new work naturally, with no preconceived method or plan.
Guitarist Ben Monder brings his significant creative force to the project, providing a sparkling, seamless, and sometimes shredding platform from which Shragge can explore the thoughtful compositions. Monder notably appeared on the last David Bowie album, 'Black Star', but is also to be found in numerous other projects, including the recent album 'Infinitute' by Jazz sisters Ingrid and Christine Jensen.
