Instead of top-down bombing, which often failed to penetrate multiple reinforced floors, crews targeted a building’s main support columns at an angle. This brought down entire sides of ISIS fighting positions, clearing the way for ground advances. The method spread quickly among JTACs and aircrews in theater.")
