Captain's Log, stardate 5340.6
The Lexington is finally done repairs after the M-5 affair. I know it was an honest mistake, but it's hard to believe that the inestimable Dr. Richard Daystrom's legacy may end up being the near destruction of what is now my new ship.
I have a new crew, one in line with Starfleet's new philosophy of moving away from mostly single species crews and more a more integrated crew of multiple species. I certainly look forward to all the complaints about the life support being set too hot, too cold, too humid, or too dry, to say nothing of atmospheric gas combinations being suboptimal for half the crew.
That being said, we leave Starbase 4 ready for what's out there, for what lies beyond the edge of known space. The Lexington is a fine ship with a fine crew, one of the best in the fleet, despite their experimental makeup. I could not be more proud to be their captain. This five-year mission into the unknown is one we have prepared for all our lives. And I'll be honest, it promises to be a fine adventure.
