What a fantastic wainwright walk to see in the new year. I began this walk from the patterdale hotel car park (£5 for all day parking or £10 for overnight parking) . The first summit of the day was Arnison Crag. At this point it was still fairly sunny but that soon changed as I began my approach to the snowy summit of St Sundays Crag.
I think most people probably head up the steep stony wall path to the summit of birks first, but i decided to take the more gradual path to the base of st sundays crag. The path does disappear about half way along so good nav skills are needed.
Then i head up to the snowy summit of St Sundays crag before heading over to birks and then back down on a circular loop to patterdale. This walk marked wainww 120, 121 and 122 / 214 wainwrights. Got to say I loved this one with the snowy conditions.
But a reminder to anyone heading out in winter to ensure they are fully prepared for winter conditins. Please stay safe out there. I did make use of the map and compass for once on this walk and my microspikes. Winter in the lakes can be very beautiful but it is important to stay safe out there too.
A long video this week but i hope you all enjoy it.
