These were purchased directly from Winsor and Newton, and are now available through other retailers, probably at a much lower price. I highly recommend you shop around for a best price, as Winsor and Newton's site is very overpriced.

Why was Ultramarine Ash Discontinued?
My guess is because we synthasize ultramarine blue, and have a much richer, more vibrant version available. This was probably a cheaper option made from a byproduct.

Why was this color discontinued?
It sounds like it wasn't- it's a popular color but perhaps not one commonly available premixed for watercolor.
Better ideas for a revival set:
Winsor and Newton has been around FOREVER, what about a recreation of their first set?
Or their most popular set?
Or one of their early laquered boxes?
More historical colors- like one from each centry or one from each era
Or recreate a famous Victorian watercolorist's favorite color palette
I recommend that you skip this set. Many of these colors are already available under different names and other brands (Imperial purple, for example), so it may be easier to just pick up the colors you like from other sources. I wish dot sheets had been available at NAMTA- I would've saved myself $60 and just bought Tyrian Purple and maybe Otswald Grey.
