ANIMATION DESCRIPTION:
This is a virtual tour of the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, which
is a physics accelerator that began operation in 1999.
This traces the acceleration of a single gold ion from its origin in a
set of tandem accelerators, to its point of collision within the collider.
Also modeled are the 4 experiments that will be taking data at the collider
later this year. The second half of the movie zooms in on each
of these experiments.
