Merry Christmas to Luli and to Lads a Luli Christmas!!!
Thank you so much to Himwo for inviting me to make a cover for the Ladvent Calendar! I hope you guys enjoyed it! It was something completely different for me but I think the end product turned out nicely :3
an original draft more faithful to the original bgm was recorded on Oct 25 before flying out to Japan, and I recorded the final version here in 2 sessions, recording all instruments but bass on Nov 22 and recording bass & mixing on Nov 23 after returning from my trip. this was a fun project for me to play around with a lot of the sounds on my keyboard i don't normally use and really find out what it had to offer for this cover!
i ended up with this version using the chords of the original but less of the structure since I felt like I couldn't maintain the original structure without sacrificing some musical integrity of the christmas-y sounding sounds from the keyboard (i.e. keeping funky rhythmic patterns felt weird on bells). the other thing I wasn't satisfied with was the intro in my first draft, which missed a lot of the middle voices/frequencies with what I had and didn't really match up to the original bgm. The current intro plays to the strengths of the bells before bringing in the bass and keeps the rising lead in into the verse from the original so I am quite happy with it. I always like making covers that deviate enough from their originals since if it's too close I feel like you may as well listen to the original!
