Last Saturday I visited Tiburon! The crown jewel of Marin County, where the views are breathtaking but is a complete ghost town , it's empty tables every where
Seriously, just breathe in that fresh bay air. Smells like salt water and extreme generational wealth.
And the dining scene? Exquisite. If by exquisite you mean paying forty-five dollars for a piece of artisanal toast at a waterfront bistro. You aren't paying for the food, you are paying for the privilege of sitting within splashing distance of a yacht named Tax Haven.
If you survive lunch, you can brave the tourist shops. It is a thrilling gauntlet of identical boutiques selling things no human actually requires. Think thirty-dollar bars of organic lavender soap, linen shirts that wrinkle if you look at them, and hand-woven nautical throw pillows. The tourists arrive on the ferry, panic-buy an oversized Tiburon sweatshirt because they didn't realize the Pacific Ocean is cold, and then flee back to San Francisco.
Which brings us to the best part: 5:01 PM. The last ferry leaves, and poof! Main Street completely empties out. It is a pristine, multi-million-dollar ghost town. No music, no nightlife, no signs of actual human life. Just the gentle, eerie hum of twenty-seven Teslas charging in unison. It's absolutely beautiful and entirely asleep by dusk.
