OVERVIEW

Xiǎo Zhōu Tiān 小周天 (Lesser Mandala of Heaven) is a Taoist inner alchemical practice (內丹, neidan) that circulates the flow of energy along the Du 督 (spinal) and Ren 任 (frontal) meridians within the body, passing through the Three Fields – lower, middle, and upper dantian 丹田 – to balance yin and yang, refine the Three Treasures (jing, qi, shen), and harmonize the body’s inner currents with the cosmic rhythms of nature and the universe, thereby cultivating vitality, essence, and a closer attunement to the divine.

It is the foundational and preliminary cultivation technique for mastery over the mind, body, and spirit, before practitioners advance on to the Dà Zhōu Tiān 大周天 (Greater Mandala of Heaven).

The Mandala(s) of Heaven 周天 are personal wellness practices for preserving health and longevity, clearing energy blockages and stagnation, thus increasing dynamic vitality. Increased vitality then facilitates emotional and mental regulation, which then prepares the mystic practitioner for more advanced modalities of spiritual cultivation. The Lesser Mandala of Heaven lays the groundwork for advancing on to the Greater Mandala of Heaven.

On its own, anybody can benefit from practicing this simple form of breath regulation. Breath is what harmonizes body with mind, and mind with spirit to strengthen both body and mind, which then elevates and empowers the spirit. Mastering breath regulation increases your lung capacity, breathing efficiency, lowers stress hormones, and improves your circulation, which nourishes your internal organs. This exercise is also a way to clear any stagnation or blockages of qi that were in your meridians.
