This demonstration is designed to challenge people’s expectations about ocean acidification. They will compare what happens when a familiar acid (lemon juice) and an acidifying gas (carbon dioxide) are added to a nontoxic pH indicator solution. The surprising result helps engage them in a discussion about what ocean acidification is (and what it is not), and sets the stage for the ‘Hold Your Breath’ activity.
