This is one of the rarest albums I own in my vinyl collection. Now That’s What I Call Music 34 was originally released in the summer of 1996. By this point, sales of new vinyl were at an all time low, but amazingly, NOW 34 was given a double LP release on shop shelves.
The cover is definitely giving off the summer vibes. 42 tracks made up this album and they squeezed every single one onto the vinyl release. Like all NOW albums on vinyl, this is a gatefold and opening up you get a beautiful spread containing information about all of the tracks featured, the artists who released them and some chart stats as the cherry on top. This kind of detail you just don’t get any more in the modern NOW releases of today.
If you remember what the charts were like back in the summer of 96 then there’s a good chance some of those tunes are on this album. Tracks like Wannabe from the Spice Girls, Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison and even Wonderwall by Oasis.
As this was the penultimate vinyl release for the NOW series, you won’t find it all that often, or for a very cheap price. For a decent copy without much wear and tear, in a lot of places you’ll be looking to pay at least £100 if not a lot more. Of course this wasn’t the very last NOW that was put out on vinyl, but do I have that last release in my collection somewhere…?
