We all know young people are disproportionately represented in the road toll. There's plenty of material out there saying not what to do, but in this video I wanted to take a different approach:
- show what 'good' looks like. I don't feel it's reasonable to say don't do something but not show a good example to follow;
- explain what happens if you are a loser driver;
- say where you can take your car to the limits. You wouldn't expect a young puppy to behave like an old lapdog, and nor should we expect young people to somehow quell their need for thrills. So I show them where and how to get involved with motorsport.
I'm hoping the audience is:
1. the more studious young people who can watch a video nearly 20m long and can influence others;
2. parents or other adults - I've spoken to many parents who didn't realise motorsport is an avenue for their overactive, thrill-seeking young people, or what a good onroad driver looks like. I plan to do more with John as a role model for all parents doing the L-plate hours.
3. inspiration for others to create their own take on this subject, using what I've got here as if needed and if it fits their style.
I don't think this will appeal directly to the target, so it's more an indirect approach.
