Good old fashioned matches are still a great way to light a fire. They are waterproof when kept in a sealed container and cold does not bother them. When used in conjunction with spruce pitch, matches are especially a great source for fire lighting. Matches are falling out of favor in recent years but that is not due to matches no longer being a useful means of fire lighting
