During Metro Tunnel excavation, we reached depths of 40 metres below Swanston Street at the State Library Station site. That’s some of the deepest digging Melbourne city has ever seen. This hard rock is called ‘Melbourne Formation’ or ‘MF1’.
It will be housed in their Realia Collection, which is one of the many collections showcasing Melbourne’s transport history at State Library Victoria.
