In Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader, the creators take a radical approach to Edward Nygma by stripping away his signature puzzle gimmick to reveal a violent, deeply insecure 1940s gangster. Ever since his debut in 1948’s Detective Comics 140, The Riddler has been defined by his pathological need to prove his superior intelligence through elaborate mind games.
