It is the year 2028. A pandemic has scoured away most of humanity, and what is left of society is subjected to the pervasive logic of machine algorithms.
A creature washes ashore on a beach in Estonia. He calls himself Rudolph, and he is dragging his half-dead mother with him on a secret mission of a kind that seems puzzling even to himself. “A Report on the Party and the Guests” is a philosophical horror story of a human race slowly withering away within an increasingly autonomous techno-sphere.
A report on the Party and the Guests is a cyberpunk odyssé that explores the nature of a machine take-over of the world – a take-over not with a bang, but a whimper. There are no killer robots knocking on the door, instead, humanity is slowly and unfathomably rendered irrelevant within their own society. The aesthetic of the film is a frenetic mixture of styles and formats from the future as well as the past, conveying an otherworldliness, unlike any other film.
