The OpenSky M-02J is an experimental jet-powered glider created by Japanese artist and designer Kazuhiko Hachiya, built in partnership with Aircraft Olympos, and inspired by the anime Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
This ultra-light, hand-crafted aircraft blends art and aviation, using a compact jet engine for self-launch and smooth gliding flight. The M-02J is part of the OpenSky Project’s mission to explore what personal flight could feel like not as a commercial aircraft, but as a fusion of imagination and engineering.
Third-party reports estimate a 124 mph top speed, a 31–56 mph cruising speed, and around 15 minutes of flight time, extendable with favorable wind. With successful demos and public flights, it stands as one of the most unique aviation projects in the world.
