In Ladera Ranch, at least six children and young adults have been diagnosed with exceptionally rare Ewing sarcoma, leaving grieving families convinced their idyllic suburb hides a dangerous mystery.

With no known environmental cause, state cancer registries and researchers are probing whether pesticides, abandoned oil wells or landfill emissions might explain the apparent cluster — even as coincidence remains a possibility.
