We start on I-94 West just west of Dickinson, ND on a rainy day. We drive toward the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National park. We stop at the Painted Canyon Overlook before heading through the town of Medora and into the park.
There is a loop road within the park. However, at the time of this visit in early August of 2023, a section of the loop road was closed due to road construction. This meant we had to drive as far as we could on the open section of the loop, and then we had to turn around and retrace our route back out of the park.
The park highlights the landforms of the North Dakota badlands, and we enjoyed our visit in spite of the rain.
