Trump has just started negotiating a deal to end the war in Ukraine, something he’s promised for more than a year. The surprise is that he’s doing it without his allies in Europe or even Ukraine. Instead, Trump is working directly with Russian president Vladimir Putin. After Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a falling out, it's more important than ever to explain what these negotiations are really about; ending a war, the status of Ukraine, and the future of Europe.
