True Detective, 2014 - Present, created by Nic Pizzolatto
After its disappointing second season, the future of HBO’s True Detective is currently uncertain, which is a shame, because I think the combined stories of both anthologies hint towards at least one more chapter:
Season 1: Two detectives discover a deepseeded network of evil, and by the end defeat a deranged killer who is relatively low on the ladder, and while the real evil men in charge either escape or die of old age, the story ends on a hopeful note for the jaded protagonists.
Season 2: The main characters target a similar network of evil powerful men, who this time are at top of the food chain, but the heroes fail miserably. Most of them die for nothing. Ultimate failure, mercilessly contrasting the first season's lingering message of hope.
I wonder then, if the story for season 3 will combine both previous stories, and focus on new characters once again chasing the top of the food chain evil men, but this time the characters will succeed in defeating the big bad guys, proving the first season's final sentiment about light ultimately defeating darkness.
