Featured in our new exhibit and companion book is an ambrotype photograph of Abraham Lincoln taken in Pittsfield, Ill., in 1858, between his famous debates with Stephen Douglas.

After delivering a two-hour speech at a local rally, Lincoln sat for photographer Calvin Jackson, creating this striking image of a weary yet determined candidate on the road to history.
