This week I found a space opera that gave me all the Star Trek feelings: procedural, crew-focused, and built around systems that actually work. I also struggled through a fantasy sequel that lost some of what I loved about the first book, picked up a light palate cleanser, and started something darker and more complex.
I talk about why Artifact Space felt so comforting with its competence-driven storytelling and strong team dynamics, why The Girl in the Tower was such a difficult reading experience for me despite respecting what it was doing, and how Hammajang Luck served as a much-needed breather between heavier reads.
I've also started The Red Winter, which is already delivering the morally complicated, footnote-heavy historical fantasy I was hoping for.
