The 73 has been out of service or receiving repair for a number of years now and hasn’t been in heavy, regular service for just as long. The engine now has the ability to operate with an auxiliary water tender, has been modified with 26L brake schedule equipment, can operate multiple-unit air brakes with other diesel locomotives that utilize a compatible system, been given improvements to the mechanical lubrication system, and so on…
These were the few videos I was able to catch within the rules, both on and off duty. Hopefully, we’ll see a new generation of White Pass engine crews take on the unique challenges of regularly running steam on a narrow gauge mountain railroad, whether it’s as it was before with a few cars on its own, switching the yard or in some new capacity, as long as it’s putting on a show. #train #yukon #narrowgauge #travel #wpyr #73
