Join Jack Haines aboard the Sunreef Ultima 55 for a full yacht tour and sea trial of this 55ft (16.6m) twin-hull day boat. Fitted with IPS pod drives and two 600hp engines, the Ultima 55 is Sunreef’s move into a new part of the market. In this video, Jack walks through every area on board and takes the wheel to find out how it runs on seatrial.
On deck, the Ultima 55 is all about sunbathing and watersports. The aft platform joins up with a vast open lounging area with twin sunpads, a wet bar, and deep deck storage. There’s no tender garage, so a lifting crane handles deployment over the stern. Forward, you’ll find another wide sunbathing pad with concealed anchor gear and built-in lighting, with walkable side decks and inboard handrails giving safe access around the boat.
Inside, the wheelhouse holds the boat’s only dining spot on two low tables and a wraparound bench set under long side windows. A split galley gives you a sink, hob, and oven, but this isn’t a boat built for big meals. Below deck, the hulls hold two main cabins. One sits forward to starboard with a long berth, split washroom and shower, and a hatch overhead. The owner’s cabin to port has more floor room, its own sofa, and a large shower room with smart fittings. A snug third berth aft may be used by crew or for storage.
At the helm, Jack takes the boat up to 30 knots and shows how the narrow hulls and foil strakes lift it cleanly through the sea. Top speed is 36 knots, and fuel burn at 25 knots is around 250 litres per hour. Handling is level and firm, with joystick controls and clear tracking. With strong speed, built-in shelter, and solid deck space, this Sunreef works well for short runs between anchorages, in warm weather, or as a support boat with cabin space on board.
