An international group of researchers developed a new algorithm to create complete and quality 3D scan, using Artec Scanning SDK, and an Artec Spider mounted to a PR2 robotic arm. This automated scanning method produces 3D models of great quality even when scanning small objects with complicated geometry.

Comparison to visible-based, boundary-based algorithms, as well as curvature and density-based approaches are considered in creating accurate and complete 3D models. These comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.
