I don't really expect this video to do well in terms of views, however I do feel it was important to chip in with my view because what this really points to is a systematic flaw in human nature. That is something we all need to think about.
This is a far more conversational tone than my usual videos, to reflect the nature of the content.

00 This video will be in a different tone to my usual videos, more conversational
02 I explain that my perspective is different because of my background in education and doctoral-level study
39 I talk through my own experience with the doctoral process to show how much rigor and originality are required
51 I share my reaction to seeing Mike’s data table and why it immediately raised red flags for me
54 I explain why fabricated or careless data would never pass even a first-year doctoral review based on my own experience
36 I discuss how Mike’s popularity seems to have peaked and why people are now more critical of him
14 I point out some of the strange or harmful training claims he’s made publicly and how they’ve damaged credibility
01 I talk about how large influencers can spread bad or oversimplified information far more easily than smaller creators
00 I compare the situation to being a fake natty—when your authority is built on something misleading, it undermines everything
45 I highlight the potential favoritism in the evidence-based community and how those who’ve benefited from Mike tend to defend him
23 I question whether exercise science as a field has truly added much of practical value
45 I remind viewers that they have a responsibility to stay skeptical and not just accept authority at face value
14 I reflect on how human nature drives us to follow leaders rather than think independently
32 I close by saying that blind loyalty to influencers is part of the problem and that we all need to be more critical
