Steve "Melt Solder" Weber built a small ATtiny based controller that reads a digital thermometer and sends the temperature periodically via Morse code. kd1jv.qrpradio.com/temp2morse/temp2morse.htm I liked the idea, and wired up the six components to make a little RF beacon, which could be powered by my Morse beacon program: brainwagon.org/2009/11/14/another-try-at-an-arduino-based-morse-beacon
