At CU Denver, SGA is about a lot more than awarding funds or influencing other decision-makers. This year, President Savannah Brooks and Vice President Mitchell Mauro are spearheading a project to enhance student mental health services. SGA is proposing a new Mental Health and Wellness fee of about $92 (and a $30 decrease of the student services fee, which nets $62).

The funds would be used to increase mental health offerings at the CU Denver Student and Community Counseling Center, like crisis walk-in hours—something Brooks feels passionately about. “We had gotten the data for how many students were utilizing crisis walk-in hours, and there was definitely a need for that,” Brooks said. “To see that students might be in crisis and might not be able to have that resource, was something I feel we absolutely need to have if we’re serving a population of students that is historically underserved.”

To go into effect, the fee will need to pass a CU Denver-wide student referendum, which will take place in April, 2025.
