After speaking with the author of this story, it has been confirmed that the latter portion which he wrote—the story of the young Marine beginning at 12:18—is intended to be a fictional piece of writing.
The story was inspired by his father's actual deployment experiences during the Vietnam war, where, while stationed on Okinawa, a Marine from his unit did go AWOL. The Marine was of course not devoured by a fox monster, but much of the story and the Japanese legends and superstitions about the Kitsune remain true to reality.
To the best of my ability, the stories on this channel are based on known fact or at least are purported to be true by the storytellers and cannot otherwise be disproven.
