I'm publishing this video to retain a little bit of continuity with what I had initially planned as a little Lake District series, but it is not exactly what I had planned...
I had gone out to take photos of Great Langdale from the valley floor to try and demonstrate, or at least experiment to see if I could get some nice images without climbing up a mountain. The reality was that I was very tired after my broken sleep wild camping, it was the middle of the day, and the sun was blazing hot. The result was a very dull video, and even duller images...
There are many people out there - many of you! - that will be able to go out on a sunny day and still be able to capture an image to be proud of. In fact, I see people doing it with their iPhones all the time and it makes me jealous! But I think for me it really does pay to shoot during golden/blue hour, and to be shooting something that I have already got in mind. This video was the complete opposite of those things.
I'm sure I could have put the planned video up, and that some of you may have got some value from it, but I'm not going to pretend that I am a great photographer. Like many of you, I am working on improving all the time, and there are successes and failures. I did learn something from making this video though: Be honest with yourself - if you are not happy with something, don't pretend that you are. Instead work out what it is that you are not happy with and go out to improve on it next time.
