I was in high school when the first season of Game of Thrones aired, and hearing the main theme by Ramin Djawadi really opened my eyes to what the cello could sound like. Those soundtracks have been such an influence on me, and I'm always excited to return to that world when there's a new show out.
Dan Romer's music for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes a bit of a different direction with the score that reflects the rustic setting and intimate perspective of the story. It's charming, heartwarming, and builds out the universe in a way that also elevates the music from the original series.
I especially love this theme from the first two episodes. It's a spiritual successor to that main theme from Game of Thrones with its cello solo and 6/8 time signature, and carries the legacy forward confidently.
