Texas Backyard Wildlife | A huge red-tailed hawk at the water bowl @TexasBackyardWildlife | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
Our friend Mat, who lives in southwestern France and never sleeps, spotted this spectacular red-tailed hawk on our live stream the other day and alerted us. This is the biggest red-tailed hawk we've ever seen - by far. Come to think of it, she's the biggest hawk we've seen of any species.

We can be pretty sure the hawk is female because female raptors are larger than males, and this is one big bird. Huge and very beautiful.

We've opened the video with a clip showing a couple of fawns at the water bowl an hour later to make it easier to get an idea of the scale here. And we've also added some footage from an overhead camera that shows a clear comparison between the hawk's massive wingspan and our big mama deer's body length - both about 4.5 ft / 1.4 m.
