This Valentine's Day season, we hope you will join us in sending some love to two of the most treasured members of our PS22 family, Freddy and Camille.
Sometimes when life slams you in the face with a painful reality, you feel removed, almost like you're watching someone else's life play out on TV. And in dealing with that pain, the road to healing certainly can be a rollercoaster with its ups and downs. This leads us to today's post, an original song, and a video we frankly wish we never had to make, but one that we've never been more proud to share.
Our beloved school psychologist, Freddy, is battling brain cancer and fighting like a champ, but obviously it has not been easy on him or his family, including his extended family at PS22. Freddy and his wonderful wife Camille (also a teacher at the school) are truly two of the most genuinely kind people and remarkable educators you would ever hope to meet. Obviously we wanted to do something for them. So the entire school came together to create and send some musical love to these two deserving souls going through something they just simply don't deserve. Students and staff joined forces to create the biggest PS22 Chorus we've ever seen to date, all inspired by our love for these two remarkable people! We want them to know they're not in this battle alone.
I usually save my song to sing with the chorus for the end of the year, but the circumstances called for moving things up a bit. Mrs. Lopez, Ms. Marguerita and Ms.Berenice helped to make things extra special by contributing their exquisite talents to the proceedings. And wow, seeing and hearing all my colleagues in that auditorium come together in song was a moment I don't think any of us will ever forget. While I've always taken great pride in working at PS22, never more so than during this moment. We hope this video shows Freddy & Camille just how much we love and miss them as they continue to fight the fight in heroic fashion, which surprises none of us who are blessed to know them.
