GTV Japan | A Disney Afternoon: NES Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers Let’s Play Recorded On VHS In 1990! @GTV-Japan | Uploaded April 2017 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Decades before it was "cool" I was making gaming videos! (More Below!)

On August 9th, 1990, I did something few people had thought about doing and nobody would see, that is until now. I made a video of me playing Rescue Rangers with the family camcorder. These videos are referred to as “let’s plays” in the 2020s, but in 1990, it was just me playing around with the camcorder. So in celebration of the release of The Disney Afternoon Collection, allow me to present a “let’s play” of one of the games Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers, recorded in my basement on August 9th, 1990 at 1:30 pm!

Episode information
GTV 26 "A Disney Afternoon" Season 2 Episode 5
Original Airdate: April 13, 2017
Produced August 9, 1990 (original) April 7-12, 2017
Recorded at Butsudan Studios and edited on my super new
(at the time) 2016 MacBookPro with, of course, pirated versions
of Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.

Original video recorded on a JVC Camcorder using stock VHS tape recorded
in SLP mode, because tape was expensive of course.

Don't think this was my very first video. I actually started making them in December 1988! I also made stop motion animation videos with toys, and so-called "films" that should not be listed on IMDB. They did actually have some kind of plot and wasn't just me hitting a punching bag... but nah, they weren't great. Once I tried to make an animated short using saran wrap as an animation cell. It kind of worked! Most of these tapes are lost. They were either taped over, because tape was expensive, or somehow did not survive. I don't know how many game videos I ended up making but my guess is around 50 between 1988 and 1993. After that, the camcorder broke! I was in high school anyway and was using their AV equipment, doing school plays and forensics (where I went to state) and so I just moved on to other things. I have 7 videos that have survived, and other than this one and the one about columns, the quality is really bad and I don't think I will be showing them.
