As of 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) and the Seattle Education Association (SEA) have yet to reach an agreement on a contract, just one day before the school year begins.
SEA and SPS will return to the bargaining table Tuesday morning to try to come to an agreement before the school year starts on Wednesday and avoid a strike for the 50,000 students in the district.
SEA, which has 6,000 members, said "promising progress" has been made. The district and the union have been working through, with the help of a mediator, several disagreements, including class size and special education resources.
