In the late 90s, Philly-based Marah basically knocked the wind out of me. A furious rock n roll band led by brothers Serge and Dave Bielanko, over a two-year period, I must have seen them live 15-20x. Over time, they also became friends; we’d hang out posr-shows often ‘til the sun came up, talking music, baseball and a thousand other common interests. These were some of the best nights of my life. 25+ years later, Serge now lives in rural Pennsylvania and pens a fantastic Substack called Thunder Pie. His days co-fronting Marah may be over but his creativity and incredible storytelling abilities have never been stronger. For the first time in decades, we caught up face-to-face and looked back at some of those times and talked about tens of other topics, just like we would at the Tin Angel or the Pontiac back in the late 90s. I hope you enjoy the conversation.
