For the first time ever, UCLA welcomed International Women of Courage honorees to campus. The U.S. Secretary of State’s honors 12 IWOC awardees for their exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for human rights, women’s equality and social progress. They are recognized for their significant contributions to the international community, which they often make at great personal risk and sacrifice.

In a panel hosted at UCLA Anderson School of Management and moderated by Katelyn Choe, U.S. diplomat in residence for Southern California, three of the 2024 IWOC award recipients discussed good governance, democratic values and government accountability across the world.

• Agather Atuhaire, lawyer, human rights defender and freelance journalist, Uganda
• Fawzia Karim Firoze, advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh
• Fátima Corozo, community leader and youth advocate, Ecuador
