I drove out to our local park on the south side of Murfreesboro to run a coverage test before ARRL Field Day. Our radio club uses this park every year for Field Day operations, and I wanted to find out whether a single MeshCore repeater node could cover the entire site so every member of the club has reliable mesh messaging during the event. For this test I put a MeshCore repeater node on top of a 30 foot mast and used a companion node to send a message into the local Middle Tennessee mesh. The test proved that as long as we can get a repeater node up at 30 feet at the Field Day site, the whole club should have solid MeshCore coverage for the entire event. This is exactly the kind of pre event planning that keeps Field Day running smoothly when the pressure is on. In this video I walk through the setup, the mast deployment, the node configuration, the message test, and what the results mean for our club going into Field Day.
